Fire!!!

Today, the girls had their first gymnastics class of the summer. They loved it and had such a great time. But, when I asked them what their favorite part of the class was all they could talk about was the turtle and star stamps and lollipops they got at the end of class. No wonder why they love Miss Leann so much! We also went for a swim today in the backyard in our cool new swimming pool. The girls had a blast as always. We broke out the finger paints as well, which was a total mess. But, that's what finger paints are all about, right? We decided to stop swimming and painting once the water in the pool turned brown (from the finger paints) and got a little soupy from the graham crackers that started out as snacks that ended up at the bottom of the pool. Right after we came inside the house from our swim, we heard sirens. I looked out our front window and wouldn't you know it, there was a fire truck and a fire Hummer (who knew those existed?) coming down our street. At first, I thought they were either lost or there was a parade that someone did not tell us about. So, we made our way outside (along with the rest of our neighbors) and found that they had parked at the end of our street to put out a fire that was in a forest area behind one of the houses at the end of the street. It appears that a couple of kids started a fire in the reserve and the fire got out of control. My poor friend Angela, who lives in the house that was affected the most by the fire and smoke, was told by the firemen that if she had not called as soon as she did, her house would have been demolished by the fire. The fire was right at her fence line and there was a strong wind blowing in the direction of her house. Yeah for Angela...the hero of the neighborhood today. Thank God she was home at the time of the fire and that no one was hurt.

Never a dull moment in Longwood. I am so grateful she, her family and her house are alright.
