It's Beach Time!

A couple of weeks ago, we packed up our crew and headed to Bolivar Peninsula to spend a long weekend with my parents and my brother and his wife. I was excited to finally get a chance to show Camryn and Lauren what it's like to walk in the sand and feel waves from the ocean hit your body. We live less than 2 hours from the beach and they have never seen it. We drove to Galveston and then hopped on the Bolivar ferry that then took us over to Bolivar Peninsula. The girls loved the ferry. They thought it was really cool how we just drove our car onto the boat. They also enjoyed getting out of the car and cruising around the boat and watch the seagulls as we sailed to Bolivar. When we got to Bolivar, I must say it was quite a scene. There is complete devastation all around Bolivar since Hurricane Ike hit it. When we first got off the ferry, all you could see was trash littering the highway and lots of empty slabs where houses once sat. We even saw a house toppled over on it's roof in the middle of a pasture...no one had claimed it or even tried to clear it. It was a sad thing to see. When we finally got to the beach house our family had rented, we were pleasantly surprised to find a beautifully renovated beach house with a beautiful beachfront view. The house had a second level porch the wrapped around the whole house and the kitchen/living area was beautiful. It had recently been renovated and tastefully decorated. And, the bedrooms and bathrooms were decorated nicely in a beach motif and were super clean. As soon as we got to the beach house and checked everything out and unpacked our bags, we headed straight to the beach after much prompting from the girls. The girls absolutely loved the beach! They had such a great time all weekend collecting oodles and oodles of shells and shell fragments, building sandcastles, flying kites, and running through the waves. We had such a great time with our family. It was definitely a nice, memorable little vacation. Plus, the girls got to spend lots and lots of time with Uncle Jason and Aunt Meagan and Cousin Harley (their chihuahua) that we never see because they live in Dallas. We were so sad to see the weekend come to an end. We could have stayed longer for sure.

Our sweet girls giving each other piggy back rides on the beach.

One of the sandcastles that Uncle Jason and Aunt Meagan and Gaw Gaw helped the girls build. It was complete with shells and a moat.

Lauren flying a kite. The sea breeze was perfect for getting the kites to stay up.

Baby Peyton. Surf's up!!

Our little beach beauty. That little scratch on her nose happened a few days earlier at a block party we had when she decided to step off of a curb and slide down the cement on her nose. Poor baby!

Peyton's first time on the beach. She loved getting wet and walking through the water.

Our cutie pies.

The girls 'getting crazy' in the waves. This was taken the first time they had ever stepped a foot on the beach.
