I meant to blog about this a month ago, but got sidetracked by Hurricane Ike. A month ago, the girls went to their very first skating party. It was a birthday party for our sweet cousin Reagan who was turning 7 years old. I really didn't expect the girls to be able to or even want to skate, but boy did they prove me wrong. We brought our own skates from home, which was a huge help. My parents bought the girls Little Tikes in-line skates for their 3rd birthday last year and we have used them a couple of times on our driveway, but by no means would I call my girls real 'skaters.' When we got to the skating party, the girls were so excited about this new experience. And, I was excited too. I had not been out on a skating rink since junior high. What fun times I had way back then. We immediately put our skates on and made it out on the floor. The floor was much more slippery than they thought it would be (or even what I remember it being). Camryn & Lauren clung to me for dear life and I had a death grip on their arms not wanting anybody to fall and break an arm. All 3 of us were ringing wet with sweat once we made it around the entire rink for the first time. It took everything for me to keep a hold of them and it took everything for the girls to keep their balance and not fall. As we made our way around the rink a couple of more times, the girls got progressively better and better at keeping their balance. As we made each lap, I would ask them if they wanted to stop and rest or get a drink. Everytime I would ask them this, they would scream 'no.' So, we kept skating. By the end of the party, the girls were confident enough to skate by themselves with me (of course) hovering over them to catch them in case they fell. When it was time for us to leave because the roller rink was closing, the girls fell apart and started crying because they wanted to keep skating. I never thought the girls would be ready to skate this early. I guess this is the beginning of the skating years.
